THOUSANDS DEMAND CHARLESTON MAYOR'S RESIGNATION
OUTRAGE GROWS OVER MAYORS SURRENDER
The Democratic mayor of Charleston, South Carolina is facing mounting calls for him to leave office following his failure to protect the cities defenseless historic commercial district. Business owners and citizens alike took to social media in the hours following the riot, laying blame square on the shoulders of Mayor Tecklenburg and his police chief.
While dozens of lawless vandals ransacked historic upper King Street, Charleston Police stood down blocks away and took no action. Bullets flew through windows of occupied businesses, fireworks were shot into restaurants full of diners, and clients were forced to take shelter on the roofs of businesses. One innocent bystander was knocked unconscious in the street and rescued by a restaurant employee who fired his pistol into the air outside Halls Chophouse. The scene was reminiscent of a new installment to "The Purge" franchise. We recorded exclusive footage of the riot as it was happening, which you can view for yourself HERE and photos of the aftermath before cleanup can be seen HERE.
One business owner, a once strong supporter of the mayor, gave Tecklenburg a fierce dressing-down caught on camera HERE. Charleston took no action while citizens were on the receiving end of gunfire, only a few yards from the police line at the corner of King and Calhoun Streets. A petition demanding the mayors resignation began circulating only hours after the riot, and can be seen HERE.
